Language without Barriers

Updated: Feb 27, 2019

In December, SST took a journey to Cochabamba, Bolivia to assist children at the Bolivia Life Center Orphanage (photo on left). We set foot on a backpacking excursion through the Andes Mountains for four days and reached over 14,000 feet! As Spanish is my second language, there were many great laughs (and frustrations!) with the language barriers we came across reading stories together at bed time and communicating over the week and a half together. It reinforces that communication can be multi-modal and encompass spoken, written or gestural communication. Let's not forget facial expressions and pictures, too! Our words have power, and while other forms of communication assist our challenges, it is important to be able to communicate effectively no matter what elevation, country, or age.
